An Australia-specific RYA validation is not permission to work commercially. The RYA distinguishes instructor validation, validation for an AMSA application and full commercial endorsement. Confirm the flag-state and vessel requirements for the work you intend to do.
Match the radio certificate to the application.
The RYA Coastal and Offshore exam pages require a GMDSS-compliant radio operator qualification, such as the RYA Short Range Certificate or higher. Ask the recognised centre to confirm acceptance of the exact Australian certificate you hold before booking.
AMSA’s Sailing Master Offshore near coastal checklist specifically lists the Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP). Do not assume a short-range certificate fulfils that application.
Check the syllabus as well as the expiry date.
The RYA accepts its First Aid certificate or a valid alternative that meets its minimum training outcomes. Those outcomes include considerations specific to being afloat; a course name alone does not establish equivalence. Ask your provider or training centre to confirm the course against the RYA’s published criteria.
AMSA lists HLTAID011 Provide First Aid or an equivalent course for Sailing Master Offshore near coastal. Keep evidence of the unit, completion date and any required updates.
Sea survival belongs in the endorsement conversation.
The Australia endorsement routes include evidence of RYA Basic Sea Survival or an accepted STCW survival qualification. Confirm the precise course and validity requirements for your route before buying training. Racing requirements are a separate check with the event organiser.
Check the engine qualification combination.
AMSA accepts several engine-qualification routes for Sailing Master Offshore near coastal. Some combine RYA Diesel Engine with specified powerboat qualifications. A Diesel Engine certificate by itself should not be assumed sufficient; compare your existing qualifications with the current AMSA checklist.

The RYA’s Australia-specific instructor and AMSA-prerequisite validations use AMSA 1850 medical evidence. The RYA page also describes the AMSA 303 route for a full commercial endorsement. These validations have different purposes and privileges.
For Sailing Master Offshore near coastal, AMSA lists a current medical certificate on form 1850 or 303. Use the issuing body’s current form, examination requirements and validity rules.
Working overseas or on superyachts?
Work backwards from the role, vessel and flag state. Confirm the required STCW training, medical and security certificates with the relevant authority and employer. Holding a Yachtmaster certificate alone does not establish that you meet every employment requirement.
