Behind the guide

Useful advice starts with clear sources.

Here’s how we put this guide together, what our comparison labels mean, and how to tell us when something needs attention.

Who publishes this guide?

Yachtmaster Course Australia is part of the YouSail network. We publish educational guides and help readers discover training options. We are not the RYA, AMSA or a sailing school, and we do not decide whether an individual qualifies for an exam.

What do we check?

We use the RYA for its exam requirements, AMSA for Australian commercial qualifications, and ACMA for radio rules. Provider websites are sources for their own courses, prices and arrangements. Where a provider’s wording differs from an issuing body’s requirements, use the issuing body for the qualification rules and ask the school about its own entry policy.

How is the school shortlist selected?

The initial shortlist contains six providers with publicly described Yachtmaster-related offerings in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia or online. It is a research sample, not every school in Australia. Listings are alphabetical. Inclusion is not a quality rating, recommendation or confirmation of current recognition.

“Provider pages checked” means we read the linked public information on that date. It does not mean we attended the course, contacted the school, verified student outcomes or independently confirmed its RYA recognition. Use the RYA centre finder to check the specific course before booking.

What do the prices mean?

Prices are the amounts shown on the linked provider pages on the stated date, expressed in Australian dollars. We separate theory from practical preparation, identify known exclusions and leave unconfirmed details as questions. We do not infer that an exam fee, accommodation, meals or travel is included. We do not calculate a national average or a best-value ranking from this small sample.

Research and specialist review are different.

Parts of this website have been drafted or revised with AI assistance and checked against the sources shown. We do not currently claim that the whole library has been reviewed by a qualified Yachtmaster instructor or examiner. Named expert reviews will only be credited when that review has actually taken place, with its scope and date.

Some older specialist guides still need a full source review. An “Updated” date records an editorial change; a “Source check” describes the narrower verification stated alongside it. Updating a design or deploying the site does not make the underlying advice newly verified.

Commercial links and editorial decisions

The comparison uses direct public provider links without affiliate tracking codes. The YouSail relationship is shown across the site. A listing’s alphabetical position is not a recommendation. Any future sponsored placement or affiliate link should be clearly labelled where it appears and kept distinct from editorial assessment.

Spotted something we should change?

Please include the page address, the statement you’re querying, and a current source if you have one. Don’t include private certificates, logbooks or personal contact details in a public report.

This opens GitHub and may require an account. You can also use YouSail’s contact page. A report is not sent simply by following either link.

Our next editorial priorities

Extend provider coverage, reconcile older qualification advice, add qualified specialist review, and publish original interviews and student experiences with permission. We will not invent testimonials, pass rates or credentials to fill those gaps.
